Life Without Power

Earlier this year, I was a part of a short-term team who met medical needs in a remote village located in Cambodia.  One particular day another team member and I were given a tour by a local villager.  It was a journey back in time.  The only power in the entire village was a single generator that was hardly reliable which powered the village leader’s home.  Apart from that, no power.  These gracious villagers (always offering something) operated somewhat primitive mechanisms which provided power for their various harvesting processes.  I remember standing and thinking, “Wow!  These people experience life without power.”

The more I consider it, there are different kinds of power – electric power, solar power, kinetic power, and even manpower.  This week, many within our church have been reading the Eternal Impact Daily Devotional Guide by Ken Hemphill.  Today’s reading is entitled, “The Comprehensive Power,” and is rooted in Ephesians 3:20-21.  There are many Christ-followers who struggle daily because they feel powerless over their circumstances.  Many Christ-followers at the core of their being wonder if they will ever make a difference for eternity.

The amazing news is that for those who by faith in Jesus Christ have been transformed by His love, we will never experience life without power again.  Rejoice!  Lift your head!  The amazing power of the Holy Spirit is at work today… in YOU!

Today’s reading poses a powerful question:  What keeps people from believing that they, and their church, can make a difference in bringing people to saving faith in Jesus Christ? (p 18).  THOUGHTS?
