Let’s face it.  When adversity enters rarely do we initially view its advantages.  Building on his personal and professional life experiences, Ralph de la Vega shares some practical advice for not only accepting obstacles but rather embracing them as an opportunity to prepare for what lies ahead.

Obstacles Welcome addresses the value of action plans, decisive leadership, clear communication, and innovative thinking.  The goal of this book is not a quick-fix guide for problems but rather a proven strategy to leverage obstacles for greater opportunities in the future.

Obstacles Welcome was very insightful.  Honestly, I cannot say that the principles were revolutionary.  The principles revealed are tested and timely.  There are several helpful diagrams and great phrases one can use in various situations de la Vega shares as a part of his leadership at BellSouth, Cingular, and AT&T Mobility.

However, what I found powerful was the story.  For someone who had every opportunity to place blame and become a victim, Ralph de la Vega is an inspiration as a leader both personally and corporately.   I found Obstacles Welcome a great read!

I give Obstacles Welcome four out of five bookmarks.  For the person who enjoys the power of story while discovering helpful leadership principles, this is an excellent find!

Allen James (close × )

I am blessed to serve as Pastor of the West Bradenton Baptist Church in Bradenton, Florida, since June ’08.  Prior to this role, I served as Pastor to University Students (5 years) and as Pastor to Students (12 years).

I grew up in Bartlett, Tennessee, just outside of Memphis, TN.  The Lord moved powerfully in my life as a freshmen in college regarding an unyielding commitment to Jesus Christ.  I have never regretted that decision!  I graduated from Memphis State University with a B.A. in Communications and a minor in Sociology.  I received my Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.  I am currently praying about beginning my doctoral studies in expository preaching.

My Family

My wife, Nova, and I have been married since June ’93 and we have one daughter, a pug named Lulu, and a border collie/lab mix named Tootsie.

In My Sparetime

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family, golf, reading, home renovations, and cleaning the pool.
