Thirteen years ago life changed forever.  Our precious daughter was born.  So today, I have spent much of the day reflecting.  I often pray Jeremiah 1:4-8 (Jeremiah’s calling) for her that she would be sensitive to that which God has already set her apart to fulfill for His glory.

Here are a few memories from my reflection today…

• …learning that God had answered my prayer and that we were having a little girl
• …discussing names and after deciding upon one and telling all of our family, making a change
• …driving to the hospital knowing that life would never be the same
• …many sleepless nights
• …the first time she smiled
• …her first staggering steps
• …her first pool
• …our first pug standing next to her in the window
• …her tiny hand in mine
• …teaching her to ride a bike
• …her first day of school
• …her first set of stitches in her chin (I passed out in the doctor’s office)
• …trips to the mountains (first fishing trip, horseback riding through the river, white-water rafting)
• …the day she committed her life to Christ and having the joy of baptizing her
• …car rides to school together
• …Daddy/daughter dates
• …the first time I heard her sing

The Psalmist writes in Psalm 103…

¹Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
²Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
³who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
⁴who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,

so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
